Discovery Family Dayhome
SERVICES
Hours of operation are 7:30am- 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday.
Both full time (99+ hours per month) and part time care (two days a week) is provided.
Please note: We have a sweet doggy (Chocolate Lab) friend, in case of allergies. This is a non-smoking environment.
OUR PROGRAM
Nobody likes to be cooped up all day! We spend as much time as possible out and about, weather permitting. Our days include outdoor playtime, singing, free play, crafts, field trips, creative expression, music, play grounds, play dough, stories, bubbles, baking and much more! We are an encouraging and very positive group.
When your child joins Discovery, you all become a very special part of our family forever!
We are located few blocks from École Sacré Coeur (Formerly EMP) and Sir Alexander Mackenzie schools. Also, not far from Kinosayo and Neil M. Ross. I'm sorry, I cannot provide pick up and drop off from school but do put children on the school bus if required.
A gentle approach to Kindergarden readiness skills are part of our daily routine for those approaching this next step in their journey. We do alot of learning through play.
Fees include Lunch (Noon) and two snacks (9:00 am and 2:30 pm)
WE LOVE FIELD TRIPS!!!
Some experiences that we do are...
Servus Place
Fountain park
Firehall
Library
Telus World of Science
Bakery
St. Albert Children's Festival
and City Bus Adventures
We try to do a major field trip at least once a month depending on road conditions, we rarely use the city bus system (in St. Albert) and also have an 8 passenger Ford Expedition equipped with properly installed car seats for each specific child. I periodically take a car seat safety course to ensure that I am current on the latest car seat science and regulations.
Most spring/fall and summer days we go to the park or for a nature walk in the ravine or park trails. Most days include at least two outdoor playtimes per day even in the winter. (Also keeping weather safety in mind)

I am excited to invite your sweetheart to join us for our daily adventures!
We highly value our outdoor time. I kindly ask that you drop your child off no later then 9am so that we can make the most of of the morning program. It is often difficult to find us when we are hiking through the forest. Lol!
Payment is required through the agency... These rates are to reserve your child's spot in my home. If your child is absent or on holiday the fees still apply for the days you are contracted for. These are the expectations for nearly all childcare environments.
A deposit to the agency is due upon the signing of the childcare contract if care is to begin at a later date. This amount is applied to your first month childcare fees. It is necessary to secure your child's spot in my home. In the event that I am ill or require an unavoidable appointment, I have personal days available. Most years I have used 2-3 days.
One month notice is required if care is no longer needed. I will give you the same courtesy. :0)

ABOUT ME
My name is Corrine Gates. Our family moved from Edson in 2010 and are continuously amazed at the opportunity for children to be involved in the community of St. Albert.
My belief is that children who experience a variety of opportunities are better equipped to make well rounded choices throughout life.
As an adoptive family we have five wonderful children who are now adults. My two youngest daughters are the last ones to leave the nest. (ages 20 and 21) We have adopted both domestically and internationally, some with special needs. I have cared for many adopted children in the dayhome. Many families value my extensive experience in this area.
I have 30+ years experience with children and have worked for St. Albert Catholic Schools, Loseca Foundation, have been heavily involved with Girl Guides and cared for many with disabilities. I am certified in First Aid CPR, and have taken training in Medication Administration, Food Safety, Cultural Diversity, Recognizing Abuse and Personal Care. I am have obtained level 3 in Early Childhood Education through Portage College.
Recently, my training also includes the Brain Story program and I plan to complete Alberta's Childcare Framework course called FLIGHT.
